If you need to delete an incident from Crime Insight without the Incident Editor, these steps will show you a simple way to create a delete file. This can also be applied when creating a file of deletes for multiple incidents.

  1. Use the Incident Lifecycle report to identify all files submitted for the incident. We can pick one file with a segment 1I, 1A or 1R as a starting point. Please note the File Name, Submission Date/Time and Submitted By to make sure we pick the exact file. It doesn't matter which file is selected among multiple files having 1I, 1A or 1R.
  2. On the Nibrs Data Upload page, filter by the Agency and locate the file we selected earlier and download it.
  3. Open the file and locate the line having the segment 1I (or 1A, 1R) for the incident. Copy that line to a new file and name the file appropriately for our delete action. Replace the letter "I" (or A, R) at position 6 with "D" and save the file. At this point, we have converted a line from an Insert (or Add, Replace) action into a Delete action.
  4. This file is ready for uploading and will delete the incident from Crime Insight. Please note that the incident remains in the statistical reports until the nightly reporting data refresh finishes.

  • Delete a group B arrest: The process is similar, with a difference in step 3. We need to replace 1I, 1A, 1R, 7I, 7A, or 7R at positions 5 and 6 with 7D. This tells Crime Insight to delete segment 7 (group B arrest).
