Errors

Sometimes errors show on the Errors and Warnings page that will never be fixed. Errors that cannot be fixed can be hidden by default. For example, error code 052 - Not a valid ORI - not in UCR ORI file, cannot be fixed because incidents and Group B arrests are uniquely identified by their ORI and Incident Number/Arrest Transaction Number and when you fix the ORI it becomes a different incident. UCR Program Managers may discover that there are other errors that will never be fixed and they may wish to not show these error codes on the Errors and Warnings page. The Site Administration Errors page allows a UCR Program Manager to do this.

It is important to note that while the errors will be hidden on the Errors and Warnings page, they will still appear on the Upload Details page for an uploaded file.

It is also important to note that when errors are hidden, the incidents are still considered to be bad and are not submitted to the FBI and not included in most reporting.

  1. Login to Crime Insight as an administrator.
  2. From the System Administration menu, choose Site Administration.
  3. Click on Errors and search for the code you want to hide.
  4. Click the pencil to edit the code and check/uncheck the box for what you want to show/hide.
  5. Click the Checkmark to save your change or click the X to cancel the change.

Warnings

Sometimes a state does not want to check for a certain warning or they may want to change a threshold value that is used to generate a warning. When warnings are disabled, Crime Insight will not check for them during ingestion and they will no longer appear on the Upload details page for an uploaded file, nor will they appear on the Errors and Warnings page.

Note: Errors can be hidden using the Errors page and Warnings can be disabled using the Warnings page. One exception to this is the warning b_submit_order. This is a special warning that cannot be disabled and therefore it is found on the Errors page.

To enable/disable a warning:

  1. Login to Crime Insight as an administrator.
  2. From the System Administration menu, choose Site Administration.
  3. Click on Warnings and search for the code you want to enable/disable.
  4. Click the pencil to edit the code and check/uncheck the box for what you want to enable/disable.
  5. Click the Checkmark to save your change or click the X to cancel the change.

When a threshold value that is used to generate a warning is modified, that new value is used when checking for the warning. One example would be to change a threshold age value for DQ1549 - Offender is Spouse or Ex-Spouse but age {age} is less than expected {threshold}.

To change a threshold value:

  1. Login to Crime Insight as an administrator.
  2. From the System Administration menu, choose Site Administration.
  3. Click on Warnings and search for the code for which you want to change the threshold value, e.g. search for DQ1549.
  4. Click the pencil to edit the code and enter a new threshold value.
  5. Click the Checkmark to save your change or click the X to cancel the change.
