What is an IVX file? Can I edit it using a text editor like Notepad?
An IVX file (coupled with a set of special IVD files) is called an "extract" and is primarily created when you want to analyze survey data. The Beyond 20/20 Builder pre-processes the raw survey source data and allows the end user to pick and choose which fields (or questions) they want in a cross-tabulation. Because the IVX file and its associated IVD files are the output of a build (and therefore not source data files) its structure is not documented and we do not recommend editing IVX files using a text editor.
If you want to create an extract you need to create an IVU, an IVS and a series of either IVN or IVD files that describe each question in the survey. The IVD files that get produced along with the IVX file are 'special' because they contain the one-way frequency counts for each item in the source IVN or IVD files.
